Chiropractic: The Stress Reliever

Stress…it affects us all.  Stress can be emotional, physical, or psychological, and has varying effects based on how severe and prolonged that stress is in your life.  Sometimes it can cause symptoms that might not seem like they could be caused by stress.  Physical symptoms in the body, like back aches, tight muscles, and headaches.  Getting these symptoms on their own might indicate that there is a physical stressor, like trauma to an area, or an emotional stressor, like a family tragedy or a stressful job.  Stress could have long lasting, chronic effects on the body if not taken care of.  It can cause anxiety, depression, irritability, headaches, and insomnia.  Chronic stress may also increase your risk of developing type 2 Diabetes. Goals for reducing stress mainly deal with not eliminating it completely, but lowering the levels that you experience on a daily basis.  Some great ways to reduce stress in the body include adjustments and massage.  Adjustments relieve the physical symptoms of stress on the body by immediately reducing muscle tightness and healing from the inside out.  Stress causes dysfunction in communication of the nervous system and in the release of certain hormones in the body, both of which are regulated by the brain.  The brain’s main link to the body is through the spinal cord, which is protected by your spinal column.  Chiropractors focus on finding regions and joints in the spinal column that exhibit these signs of dysfunction and directly influence positive change.  Adjustments allow the nervous system to communicate more effectively with the body, and increase overall range of motion of the joint that is adjusted.  This allows the body to combat stressors that are present in a person’s life.  So don’t wait until the chronic effects of stress cause long lasting issues, come in and get adjusted!
